THE ROLE OF NZSHS
The NZSHS was established in 1981 to cater for the rapidly developing professional horticultural industry within New Zealand. The membership of NZSHS is diverse representing research, industry, consultancy and tertiary education.
Within New Zealand we work closely with the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science and jointly publish the magazine AgScience. On the international front we are affiliated to the International Society for Horticultural Science and in conjunction with ISHS we have arranged a number of very successful international symposia in New Zealand. The next International Kiwifruit Symposium is due to be held in New Zealand in Feb 2006.
The primary roles of NZSHS are to:
| Be a professional organisation representing those professionally involved in horticultural science. | |
| Provide an independent, neutral forum for debate on horticultural science issues. | |
| Be a communication medium for horticultural science. This is provided through annual convention, local section forums and activities, AgScience magazine, international symposia and presentations/submissions to government policy makers on important issues. | |
| Encourage and reward professional excellence in horticultural science through awards, consultant registration and through fostering improved working conditions and educational standards. |
